Wentworth
School
Scarborough, Maine

PML
offers Owner’s Representative services to towns and
school boards around Maine. The 900 student Wentworth
School in Scarborough, Maine, is the latest addition to
the town’s main campus on Route 1.
Phil
was well qualified to add his construction management
expertise to the position of Owner’s Representative
for Scarborough having spent 6 years as the director of
the Construction Administration department at Harriman
Architects & Engineers, one of Maine’s premier
school designers and the architect for Scarborough’s
new school.
Harriman
Architects has designed this 160,000 square feet school to
accommodate the most recent technological and academic
standards for excellence. The project is currently
proceeding very smoothly and on schedule for a grand
opening in September of 2014. Once the new school is
completed in May of 2014, the existing Wentworth
Intermediate School will be demolished and a new parking
lot will be constructed in its footprint (and within
50’ of the new building) to accommodate the parking
needs of the new school. This element of the project
will provide a significant scheduling challenge,
requiring PML, the Owner and the design and construction
teams to work toward a flawless move-out, salvage
effort, demolition and construction sequence in order to
meet the immovable deadline for school opening in
September, 2014.
The
team of Harriman, Arthur C. Dudley Construction and PML
Project Management, Inc, have proved to be a great team.
With a project cost of just under $40,000,000 this is
one of the largest 100% locally funded public school
projects in the state. The local volunteer project
related committees and school staff and administration
are working closely with PML to assure their community
that the project funds are being well spent to provide
for Scarborough a fine academic facility.
